Butterflies

I've been meaning to post about the butterflies that I had pictured in Juice Bar. I had finally gotten my Audubon Field Guide to North American Butterflies and looked them. The first butterfly pictured, the gold one, is an Empress Louisa. The second one, the black and red butterfly, is a Red Admiral. I've seen more of the Red Admirals since taking the picture of the one.

My newest addition is the Eastern Tailed Blue Hairstreak. These are tiny butterflies and the tops of their wings are a pretty light blue. They flit around the garden and there's quite a few of them. When they rest, their wings are up and I haven't been able to capture one with the wings open to see the actual blue other than the flash when they fly by.

What pretty, descriptive names they have. How nice to have them be part of your summer.

Gorgeous name! We have these around a lot, too... or, er, did, before the tornado... I've not seen a butterfly once in FEMAville... :(

Alice & Anita - I liked their names too. Someone on the 4th told me that the "Blue" in this post had been on the endangered list. Don't know if that's true or not, there sure were a lot of them in my garden.
