Ice sickle

Well, maybe it's not curved quite enough to qualify as a sickle, but I thought this icicle was freezing into a rather unique form. Can't say I've seen one that had a curve to it like this one has. This was taken yesterday. Today all the icicles are gone. There's still quite a bit of snow cover on the lawns, but anywhere there's cement or pavement it's pretty much melted, which suits me fine since I have to get out into it today. No more snow forecast for a few days .

Our meterologists seem to just stick with the "chance of flurries" this time of year. That way, they're never wrong.

There is a really interesting explanation of how icicles form on Realscience.com. It was a real scientific mystery until just recently. The physics of the forming icicle is amazing and not as straight forward as it seems when you are looking them hang from your roof.
