Metal Menagerie

This is my metal menagerie. I haven't made any of these in quite a few years, but thought I would post them and encourage others to try this meduim of art sculpting. The material is readily available, tin cans, and with a set of tin snips you're all set to start. I have patterns for these somewhere, but I haven't a clue where that might be at present. I would suggest to make a paper model and then use that as your pattern.

The lion is in two pieces, the mane is put on before sculpting the head.

The little car and motorcycle is made from lighter parts. The "Bic"mobile is missing a piece. There was a "breather" on the front. The vehicles are put together with hot glue.

Just a couple more pictures of the the dragon and the Schnauzer.

Now this is really neat! I don't know if I would have the patience for it or not. The only metal sculpture I have is a pepsi-can airplane my dad got me LOL!

Aluminum is too thin, and cuts way too easily. My finger tips got to feeling like sandpaper because I hate wearing gloves. Wrapping the metal was rough on the skin, but I rarely ever had a bad cut from doing this.

Some good creative problem solving here. Very accomplished, I would say.

Love the playhouse out of brightly painted doors. Beautiful.

Thank you for the comments, terry! The playhouse came out even better than I had dreamed. I had collected the doors specifically with making a playhouse in mind. They were stacked in a trailor in the back yard with a tarp over them for several years (all except the big yellow door and it had been on the front of my house.)
