Fun Fair 2008

Saturday was Fun Fair for Kids at Century II in Wichita KS. This is the event that I took over 500 pictures at that I mentioned in my last post. Since I have taken so many pictures at this event I think I will do at least two posts, the second post will feature pictures from the stage shows. That would be singers, dancers, Benjamin Franklin, the Hannah Montana look alike competition and the Super Heroes.
T&S Mobile Projectors has been setting up with Entercom at Fun Fair for the last 4 or 5 years.

Using the camera crane we project the stage shows on the big screen live. Between events we have fun with the kids and zoom in on them. They love seeing their faces on the big screen.
Below is a balcony shot looking out over the event. Can you see the main stage in the upper left, with our booth to the right? Click on the picture for a better view.
Here's another shot looking across the center, there were lots of inflatables for the children to play in and the lines got quite long at all of them.
There were lots of mascots there, the children (most of them) love these and run up and hug them.

I'm not sure who all they represent, I just took pictures of them as I found them.
The giraffe did a little dance for me, but I'm only putting up one shot.
Strawberry Shortcake was cute. The person constantly had their hands on her cheeks, making her look like she was being sweet and innocent, but they were actually having to hold the head up.
The mascot below is the Wichita Thunderdog, mascot of the Wichita Thunder Hockey team.
There were lots of things for the kids to do, some free and some you had to pay for. There were lots of balloon...

...and opportunities to color and be creative.
Sports stuff and inflatables...
...Princess crowns and gowns...
...make up and nail polish...
...and paint to get on your fingers.

Did I mention that there was a Hannah Montana look alike contest?
And face paint and giant teddy bears.
...Rubber duckies in a wading pool...
...and paints.
There's always lots of things to occupy children and information for adults for education and other means and interests having to do with raising children.

Because of the large number of photo's in each of the additional posts that I want to add about Fun Fair, I have decided to create a T&S Mobile Projectors blog and post them there and simply link to them from my KS Born blog. The first show that I am posting about stars Marvel Comics superheros; Captain America, Iron Man and Spiderman and the bad guy, Green Goblin. What they are fighting is Environmental waste and pollution.

Have You Missed Me?

Thought I'd better post an update so you wouldn't think I'd fallen off the face of the earth. Over the weekend I've had two events that I participated in and am in the process of editing pictures from. I took over 500 pictures at one event alone. When I finish editing I will post about these two events and then get back to my Oregon - California story. So please be patient and I'll try to have something new up later today.

OR - CA 2008 / Chapter 1

No, I'm not doing a whale story, OR - CA stands for Oregon - California. This is my report on our trip to Oregon for my Aunt and Uncle's 5oth Anniversary and then to Fresno to hear another Uncle sing with the Mennonite Men's Chorus.

Our trip began smoothly enough, hubby and I were packed and out the door in time to meet my parents at their home so my brother could drive us all to the airport. Our flight was scheduled to leave Wichita (ICT) at 9:50 am, so the plan was to be there at 8am. We were there in good time and checked in, shortly thereafter we were informed that our plane had been delayed...
The delay was enough to make us miss our other connections so all our flights needed to be rescheduled. They had a little difficulty getting us all on the same flights, but they finally did it, though we wouldn't leave till 3:10 pm. We had also been scheduled to go through Denver and was rescheduled to go through Chicago. (I just want to point out in this picture the duffel bag and two cases on the floor in front of the wheel chair, and the bag on the back of the wheel chair are the ones that I juggled.)
My brother had already gone on to work, so we busied ourselves at the airport, enjoying the artwork...
...and checking out the displays...

After getting a bite to eat in the airport restaurant, we made our way to the security check where you empty pockets, remove shoes, present your 3-1-1 bag, and take computers out of cases. Not realizing that I was going to need to remove my shoes I wore the only shoes I like, my high top Reebok's, I have them in black and in white. What a pain to get off and on.
After getting through the security check we sat and waited, again, at the gate.
Our plane made it in right on time.
We were in the front row, us on one side and mom & dad on the other. Hubby had the window seat and I teased him as we went up, asking if things were starting to look familiar. One of his favorite things to do is to "travel the world" via Google Earth.
Below, smoke could be seen, probably from a field being burned off.

I don't know what the next one was, rather eye catching from the sky.
They served a snack, pretzels or chips, and a beverage. Alcohol cost extra.
In the shot below you can see windmills for wind energy.
I'm not sure what time we landed in Chicago, but we nearly ran from our gate in Terminal 2 in the upper E wing...
...I don't remember the gate number either...

...to gate B6 in the Terminal 1. We had to grab a wheel chair for mom about halfway there because her knees won't let her move that fast.
They loaded us on board an airbus and put us clear to the back in row 24. I wasn't real impressed with the larger plane, we seemed to be packed in a lot tighter. This was a longer flight and while they didn't serve a meal they offered snack packs at $5 each. I had a "Smartpack", dad and hubby had the "Minimeal" and mom had the "Rightbite". They were really pretty good for what they were. As I mentioned in the "I'm BACK! post, there was an in flight movie, "Golden Compass" to watch on this flight.
Because of the cramped quarters and inaccessibility to a window I didn't even attempt to get my camera out. We landed in Portland on schedule and the Stewardess announced that passengers needing to make connection to Redmond needed to be let off immediately or they would miss their flight, OUR flight. Remember, we were on the back of the plane. People stood in the isle and looked like deer in the headlights, oblivious to our need. I started pushing through an opening, telling people that we needed to make our Redmond connection. One gentleman finally offered to take one of my bags and led the way off the plane (which got him off the plane sooner). We were rushed to our gate, which fortunately was just around the corner, and they were holding our plane. Again we were in the first row, and we were off again. I was so worn out by this time that I didn't bother with my camera. We arrived in Redmond around 10-something. Of course there's 2 hours difference between home and Redmond, so 10 in Redmond is 12 at home (I can do mornings on the West Coast!). Uncle and cousins were at the airport to meet us...
It was good to be at our destination.

I'm BACK!

Just wanted to post and let you know that we made it home, got run ragged catching planes but we made it. The pictures below I took with my PPC (phone) so they're not very good. I think this first one was the first plane we were on.
We were over the wing and the hubby had the window seat.
The one below was on the airbus that we were re-routed to (more on that later). Though the plane was bigger, we felt like we had less personal space, leg room, than we did on the smaller planes. They showed "Golden Compass" for the in flight movie.
It was quite an adventure and I'm sure I took at least 1,000 pictures. I've still got jet lag and have a ton of stuff to catch up on before I can sit down and post a serious report on where I've been and what we've seen and done. I had a wonderful time with family, though short. All for now!

Leavin' on a Jet Plane

I'll be away from home for a while and I don't know for sure if I'm going to have time to do anything on my blog while I'm gone, or even if I can get online. I'll be with cousins that I don't see very often so my priority will be to get in as much time with them as I possibly can.

The occasion is the 50th Wedding Anniversary of my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Gordon. Aunt Kathy is my father's sister.


My husband and I will be flying out with my Mom & Dad early Wednesday morning. After the celebration we will be flying down to Fresno to hear my Uncle Wes (dad's brother) sing in the Mennonite Men's Choir and we'll spend a little while with cousins there. I will try to get plenty of pictures, but when the jaw gets going everything else tends to fall by the wayside. Ya' all keep the fires burnin' while I'm gone, I'll try to look in on each of you if I get a chance (you know who you are)!

Boot Camp 2008

Cardio Mike had his first day of Boot Camp for 2008 at Genesis in Hutchinson KS on Monday. There was a huge group that signed on for this 5 week workout. First, Roll Call... ...then a warm-up.
